A Glimpse of the Latest Trends in Business Messaging

Nexumtech was pleased to have Nick Lane, CEO of MobileSquared, participate in our Executive Roundtable during GSMA WAS#22 in Rome. During the event, Pavel Salatiuk, Managing Director of Nexumtech, had the chance to speak to Nick about the realities currently shaping the global business messaging ecosystem and the challenges we could face in the years ahead.

During the conversation, Nick highlighted that ongoing increases in A2P SMS pricing are directly contributing to traffic decline. He noted that data shows even small price increases can result in an average 2.8% drop in traffic, reinforcing the need to reassess pricing approaches as the industry looks toward 2026 and beyond.

Speaking on RCS, Nick emphasised how RCS should not be framed as “SMS 2.0”, but treated as a distinct channel with its own value proposition. By allowing RCS to operate as its own independent channel, operators can protect SMS traffic while unlocking new marketing opportunities.

The discussion also reinforced the importance of ongoing dialogue across the messaging ecosystem. Maintaining this level of engagement over time is essential for aligning the industry around sustainable outcomes, avoid price increases, and securing the stable volumes of SMS in declining market conditions
